Bhagavad Gita Online Class 136

If a person cannot become happy in the present, then there is a very big doubt about  whether such a person can become happy in the future. How happiness is not dependent on your circumstances but on you (chapter 18 verses 36 to 37)

•If the mind gets something that it likes then it is happiness, and if the mind gets something that it does not like then it is sorrow.

•How happiness is not dependent on your circumstances but on you. How a disciple of Buddha dealt with adverse circumstances by remaining happy and a story from the life of Socrates and his wife Xanthippe.

•The definition of happiness as object minus the feeling of ownership.

•If a person cannot become happy in the present, then there is a very big doubt about whether such a person can become happy in the future.

•When our happiness is dependent upon an object or dependent upon a person and we feel that "if I get the object then I will become happy" or "if I get this person then I will become happy" then when that comes, ask your mind at that time what the state is of the person who has that object or person right now. 90% of the illusions of happiness will fall away.

•How sukh (happiness) has a very close relationship with shradhā (faith).

•Why we should never squeeze and press down on the feeling of praising others. Praise others. Do not stop your feelings to praise others. One should decide that "I wish to praise five people today" and it should not be flattering but praise! It is very easy to flatter in this world; but it is very difficult to praise.

•One should learn to say "no" with humility. Psychologists have carried out research and they have decided that the majority of people keep doing the things that they do not like to do and as a consequence they become sad in life. This is simply because they cannot stay "no" to others.

•Why you should never suppress your wishes without reason.

•Descartes' saying that "one who loves, suffers". Why one should have love towards others, nature, the Supreme Soul and oneself.

•Learning how to give to others and how to see good in others.
