Class 124: The first set of qualities of a divine person: fearlessness, purity of mind, wise apportionment of wisdom and concentration, charity, self-control and sacrifice, study of the scriptures, austerity and uprightness (chapter 16 verse 1) 
  • In the 15th chapter of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, after describing Purushottam Yog (the Yoga of the Supreme Person), one can naturally have the question that if the Supreme Soul is in each and every person and if each and every being is an eternal fragment of the Supreme Soul then why does a human being becomes deprived of experiencing krtakrtya (fulfilling all the duties that we came to this world for)? What is missing inside such a person? God gives the solution to these questions in this 16th chapter.
  • The difference between divine endowments and demonic endowments, and the difference between divine characteristics and demonic characteristics.
  • Inside human beings there is both the power of being an animal and the power of being the Supreme Soul. They are both there together. If human beings become demoted then they become animals and if that human being advances himself then he becomes the Supreme Soul. A human being is like stairs. 
  • Both a dev (god) and an asur (demon) are extreme potentialities of the same human being. An individual soul can become a dev (god) and can also become an asur (demon).
  • The story in the Shrimad Bhagavad of the Rishi Kashyap and his two wives: Diti and Aditi.
  • The qualities of persons with divine endowments: fearlessness, purity of mind, wise apportionment of wisdom and concentration, charity, self-control and sacrifice, study of the scriptures, austerity and uprightness.  These nine qualities have been described in the first verse.
  • The first quality of divine endowments is fearlessness.  While there is fear in life, consider that the path is wrong somewhere.  A study of the book "Glimpses of World history".  A divine person walks on the right path and therefore he has no type of fear. This is because he has no fear of anything. He has nothing to hide.

  • Spiritual teachers say that darpaha (arrogance) is separate from abhimān (excessive pride) because darpaha (arrogance) is egotism that comes as a result of outside objects such as youth of the body, beauty, wealth, power, fame etc.  On the other hand, abhimān (excessive pride) comes as a result the egotism of inner things such as education, intellect, religiousness, wisdom etc.
