Class 122: The two powers of the individual soul: the power of life and the power of wishes.  A study of the Sarvasar Upanishad about the nature of wish-fulfilment and the effect that wishes have on the astral body (chapter 15 verses 8 to 10)
  • When the soul takes up a body and when he leaves it, he takes these (the senses and mind) and goes even as the wind carries smells from their places.
  • A study of the 46th and 47th verses of the 29th chapter of the fourth Canto of the Srimad Bhagavad about how just like a grasshopper goes from one grass to another, in the same way the individual soul also at the time of death, because of the karmas that it was meant to complete but are still incomplete, if it has not attained another body, then it does not leave its current body.
  • In what we are all living now and in all the karmas that we are performing now, we should be careful that we are doing planning for our next life and our next birth; in fact not just our next birth but all our future births, in our current births and our current lives.
  • The reason why we cremate dead bodies, which is that it instructs the soul that "now forget the bondages of the body that you have left because that body has been destroyed". This is because if that body is preserved then the soul holds onto it.
  • Why the path of spirituality is not for people just looking for benefits. The story of the merchant and poet travelling on a plane: what is the benefit of getting a benefit?
  • The individual soul has two powers. The first is the power of prān (life) and the second is the power of ichā (wishes).
  • The three types of bodies we have: the physicial body, the astral body and the causal body.
  • A study of the Sarvasar Upanishad, the Mahabharata and the Shrimad Bhagavad about what the astral body is like.
  • Why the Katho Upanishad says that the astral body is the size of a thumb.
  • The physical body has no importance. In reality, it is the astral body that has importance and all the bondages to karmas arise happen to the astral body.
  • A study of the Tarkasangraha about how all smells come from the earth.
  • The individual soul is Ishvar (Lord) and considers itself to be the owner of the mind, the intellect and the body. But when we try to look at its perspective in reality then it lives by being a slave to all of these. This is its first mistake.
  • The individual soul considers itself to be the owner of all material things such as the mind, the intellect, the body etc. And it becomes so involved in thinking this in that it forgets its real owner who is the Supreme Soul. This is its second mistake
  • Despite having the independence and the power to renounce the relationship with these material things such as the mind, intellect and body, the individual soul does not renounce them and this is the third mistake of the individual soul.
