CHAPTER 9: RAJA VIDYA RAJA GUYA YOG (THE YOGA OF THE ROYAL WISDOM AND THE ROYAL SECRET)

The chapter 9 study classes will cover:
  • How Saints have attained Samadhi (the Divine Experience of God) by just thinking about the verses of this chapter. The precise steps needed to become one with God.
  • Why only a person who does not cavil attains the secret of wisdom. An explanation of the penances Parvati performed to attain Shiva.
  • A study of Shrimad Adi Shankracharyaji’s Aparakshano Bhuti about how the Truth is beyond our perception.
  • Goswami Tulasidas’ explanation of the birth of ShreeRam in the Ram Charit Manas.
  • A study of the Yog Vashista Ramayan by Valmikiji about how one can directly experience God.
  • A study of the Mahabharata about how Dharma protects us if we protect Dharma.
  • The six principles about how the universe works and a study of prakruti (nature) and its two parts: maya (nature) and svabhav (own-being).
  • The five factors that affect our svabhav (own-being). How the people we keep around ourselves affect our nature.
  • How the universe is a strong intention. How there has never been a person in the universe who has had a strong intention for something and has not got that thing.
  • When the Supreme Soul comes in front of us in the form of friends then we should welcome them and when the Supreme Soul comes in front of us in the form of our enemies then we must resist them and only if we do so when we get the blessings of the Supreme Soul. The story of when Shiva came to test Arjuna in the Mahabharata. Why you should oppose the attitude and not the person.
  • A study of the life of great devotees such as Srimad Adi Shankracharya, Srimad Ramanunjacharya, Chaitanya Māhāprabhu and Srimad Vallabacharyaji Chaitanya Māhāprabhu and their revolution in kirtan (glorifying God’s name) with absorption and immersion.
  • The three things that break a person’s vows: thinking about what other people will say, greed for something, or a fear of something (the biggest fear of all being the fear of death now or at another time).
  • Swami Ramtirth’s great teaching about bowing down with the heart.
  • The seven types of daan (donations) we can give. A study of Srimad Vallabacharyaji’s Subodhini.
  • Why the word aham (I) is used eight times in the 16th verse with 32 syllables and therefore consists of half the verse. Only one whose ego has gone away can naturally say aham (“I”) many times over; nobody else can say it. If a person egotistic then he will not be able to say “I” naturally. A study of the “you attitude” in management. How people use the word “your” rather than “I” to cover and hide their ego.
  • A study of mantras and how they protect human beings. Swami Akhandandji’s definition of the word mantra. The three things that are necessary in order to chant a mantra.
  • A study of the Katho Upanishad about the features of the intellect.
  • A study of the works of Shrimad Adi Shankracharya and Shrimad Ramanunjacharya about twelve ways in which we can see the Supreme Soul and how these can give us support in any situation in life.
  • A study of the Badra Sukta of the Vedas.
  • The mantra for great Saints: how the Supreme Soul brings attainment of what one has not got and security in what they have. How God gives us both prosperity and welfare.
  • Why devotion is easy and the four things that God accepts from us: patram (a leaf), pushpam (a flower), falam (a fruit) or toyam (water). The deeper meaning behind this.
  • The secret of becoming one with God: whatever one does, whatever one eats, whatever one offers, whatever one gives away and whatever austerities one practices, one should do that as offering to God. These are the five main actions that one should offer to God. A study of the Shiv Manas Puja of Shrimad Adi Shankracharya.
  • The five types of actions: shāririk kriya (bodily actions), shāstriya kriyā (scriptural actions), pārmārthik kirya (noble actions), vyavārik kriya (actions to take care of business) and sāmājik kriyā (societal actions).
  • A study of the Narad Bhakti Sutra. Why it does not matter whether devotees are born nor the way in which they come to the Supreme Soul but because they have a great love for the Supreme Soul they reside in the Supreme Soul and the Supreme Soul resides in them.
  • The removal of the human guilt complex: why each and every human being has made at least one mistake in their lives and why the doors of God are not closed to anyone. Why even if the man of the most vile conduct worships the Supreme Soul with devotion, he must be reckoned as Sādhu (righteous) because he has rightly resolved.
  • The story of Buddha’s pupil Pattachara. The gift of a Saint in showering His grace on a person and turning them towards the path of the Supreme Soul.
  • Why we should keep verse 31 of chapter 9 written in our hearts. Why ShreeKrushna’s devotee never perishes and why we should autosuggest this to ourselves.
  • The root difference between ethics and religion. Ethics only looks that outer conduct whereas religion looks at inner transformation. Ethics looks at the social perspective whereas religion looks at the perspective of the Supreme Soul. Ethics will only say that one should not downgrade another person whereas religion says that one should not downgrade oneself.
  • A lesson in women’s empowerment from ShreeKrushna: a look back at history at how womens’ mindsets have been affected by centuries of discrimination worldwide.
  • Why the Supreme Soul never accepts calling people “untouchables”. The stories of Kevat and Guhu in the Ramayan.
  • A study of the great female Saints in Indian culture including: Mira, Gargi, Maitryi and Shakūbai.
  • How ShreeKrushna is a revolutionary and how ShreeKrushna destroys all discriminatory ways of thinking. The three greatest revolutions of ShreeKrushna.
